Historical Drama

A few weeks ago a writer friend of mine was working on something historical...but it was TOP SECRET. I didn't push but the author wasn't regularly writing historicals and I knew what house it was for.

So when Clandestine Classics  http://www.total-e-bound.com/prodtype.asp?CAT_ID=306&sb=bt&ntt=5&so=all  hit the news this week, I knew that was the top secret project she'd been busy working on. When I saw another friend of mine among the authors in the group, I was intrigued.

I've seen the zombies hunters and other take offs of classic stories, we all have. So adding some erotic sex didn't seem like a huge deal. Of course there are factions who find any change of the classics a major insult. As long as I can get the original version...I'm not bothered by the whole thing. As a writer, matching the voice of the original work is a challenge I'd never take on...

Still, I think it's brilliant promotion. In less than a week it has grabbed a lot of attention, positive or negative.

Jane Austen is still popular and shows like Downton Abbey (which I'm addicted to) only prove that historicals are hot hot hot! People are enjoying the different eras. Maybe we're all longing for a simpler time when people were polite and just a bit elegant.

For once I'm sort of on top of things:) Having just completed a m/m Regency erotic romance that I'm currently editing, I have hopes it might find an eager audience. We'll see which house snaps it up but I'm more excited now. When I started it, I was wondering why my muse was so strongly headed there. (It's NOT a remake or take off of any book...just FYI. Simply a very strong regency idea I couldn't ignore).

And this isn't my first historical. A Firm Hand was well reviewed but I think it came out at a time when historicals weren't the hot trend. So I'm sharing it here again today...just in case this title from my backlist has been overlooked and now readers might be looking for stuff like it. I love the regency era and have stories to tell...more regency is coming:)
